Birthday Parties

This weekend Victoria attended 2 birthday parties. She painted the pottery masterpiece:

and had fun meeting the clown, doing the face painting, etc:

That got me thinking about her incoming birthday. It's not until December, but I thought I should plan something now, before we go to Ukraine. A friend of mine is opening The Little Gym franchise, and I think it's a good idea to have Victoria's birthday party there. And thinking about her birthday made me realize that if everything goes well, Raisa will celebrate her 10th birthday on the US soil! Her birthday is also in December, so (I keep my fingers crossed) if everything works the way we want, we'll have a busy end of the year!

Today marks 16 business days since our dossier was submitted to SDA. This Friday is a holiday in Ukraine (Constitution day), so our 20 business days will fall on Tuesday, August 28th. Most of the time it takes much more than 20 business days to receive an appointment date, so I'm not really hoping to get it next week. But it would be nice to finally have a date, start planning, get tickets, etc.

Your children are beautiful. Our daughter also celebrates a birthday in December. She'll be 5. If our dossier is submitted in Sept. (fingers crossed) we assume we may be in Ukraine in Dec, so we're trying to decide whether to take her, how to celebrate her birthday, what to do about the holidays, etc. It's hard to be planning ahead with so many unknowns.
We hope you hear about your appt date soon.

I am anxiously awaiting your appt date as I'm hoping ours will follow shortly after! Our 20 days will be up on Sept 11, but we don't really anticipate hearing anything until closer to the end of September. Here's hoping it's close to 20 days for both of us!

Your daughter is adorable! And it's exciting that Raisa will probably spend her next birthday with you all in America. What a blessing for all of you.

Hoping to hear good news for both of us soon!! (we're on Day 28...)

Gorgeous! We were worried we'd miss Hannah's birthday in September...then that wasn't an issue. As it ends up, we'll probably miss Christmas and Thanksgiving but it is only one year and it will be worth it all!

Nataliya, how do you pronounce Raisa's name? Is the first part like the "rais" in "raisin"? or does it sound more like the word "Rise"?

She is so beautiful! :) I hope you hear something this week! We're keeping our fingers crossed (and sending up a bunch of prayers!) We're on the same time-table as Mark and Courtney...hoping to hear something shortly after Sept. 11.

Melissa, it's more like "Rah-ee-sah" with the emphasis on "ee". Her nickname is "Raya", pronounced like "Ryan" without "n". We'll probably change her first name to something that sounds more American, but we'll still call her Raya at home.
